Having helped hundreds of customers design and create exceptional kitchens over the last 40 years, we’re now delighted to offer a full interior design service. Whether you simply need some curtains or blinds made, or whether you’re ready to redesign your entire home, our interior design team is here to help.
Heading up our interior design service is Lyn Venables, a highly experienced designer with an instinctive feel for colour, pattern and fabric. Based at our Oundle showroom, Lyn would love to welcome you into her ‘interior design corner’ where she can talk you through the latest fabric collections and paint charts.
It’s well worth a visit to our showroom, because not only will you get a taste of our interior design service, you’ll also be able to browse our updated range of kitchen room sets showcasing a selection of our stunning kitchen styles.
Here, Lyn Venables explains more about the Intone interior design service and lifts the lid on her own approach to design…
Tell us a bit about the interior design service at Intone?
Well, we’re here to help you as much or as little as you need. You can book an appointment with me at the showroom, where we can look at pattern books and fabric samples together, or I can visit you at home to get a sense of your personal style.
We might start with some curtains or blinds for your new kitchen, and then we might move on to the rest of the house. I can give gentle guidance and advice, or I can look after everything from space planning and mood boards to sourcing and project management.

How would you describe the experience of working with you?
Well, hopefully it’s fun and easy! There’s certainly nothing to feel intimidated about. I see my job as guiding you towards creating a beautiful home, not telling you what you should choose.
I also strongly believe your home should reflect you and your family. A home should have personality; it shouldn’t look like a bland show home. I’m interested in the story your home can tell via the things you’ve collected over the years and the way you want to feel in the space.
How do you get to know a client’s tastes before you embark upon their design?
I might visit their home to get a sense of their likes and dislikes, or I might create a simple Pinterest board as a way of gauging their preferred aesthetic. Getting a full understanding of your lifestyle and tastes is an important part of the process. I never launch straight into the design. I need to get to know you first.
How would you describe your own interior style?
I love homely, inviting spaces featuring a mix of old and new. I’m fascinated by pattern and colour, but my own colour palette tends towards outdoorsy, sludgy colours that are easy to live with. Think earthy tones with lots of natural textures.
I don’t really believe in following fashion in interiors. I’d rather go for things that will stand the test of time. I love hand-me-downs and auction finds that tell a story. For instance, I still treasure my grandmother’s old blanket box. I love it and it’s something I’ll never part with.
Any tips for people who don’t know where to start with their interior?
If you’re stuck for colour choices, looking in your wardrobe is a great place to start. The colours you wear are likely to be the same colours you’ll enjoy surrounding yourself with in your home.
I also think it’s important to get the mood right in a particular room in relation to the time of day you’re going to use it. As a general rule, I advise using lighter colours for daytime spaces and darker colours for evening spaces to maximise the cosiness.
